HOW DOES OCCUPANCY DETECTION WORK?

By utilizing passive infrared (PIR) sensing technology and intelligent logic control software, the occupancy sensors are able to verify the status of rooms.

In an occupied mode, the thermostat operates normally and looks for a door open signal. When the door opens (door open signal) the thermostat waits for a door close. If the door is open for more than five minutes the thermostat turns the HVAC system outputs to OFF. Once the HVAC outputs transition to OFF, a door closure is required to re-enable the outputs.

When the door closes, the thermostat starts a five minute timer and looks for occupancy detection. If the timer expires and no occupancy is detected, the thermostat transitions to an unoccupied state. If occupancy is detected while the timer is running the thermostat will remain in the occupied state.

In the unoccupied state, the thermostat sets heating and cooling to setback values, as determined by factory or user settings to reduce energy consumption and equipment wear.

  • Allows normal operation when infrared sensor detects occupancy
  • Works with most existing systems
  • Occupied vs. unoccupied operation is determined by S200 sensor with timers.
  • In unoccupied mode, default heating setpoints are 51/55/59?F, cooling setpoints are 79/82/85?F.

CONTROLLED SETBACK

Programmable high-low temperature setback limits allow the hotel management to select an energy-conserving temperature range for empty rooms. This feature prevents rooms from becoming too hot or too cold when unoccupied, and provides efficient cool down or warm up on occupant return.

WHY SHOULD YOU USE OCCUPANCY DETECTION?

Reducing Energy Expenditure Means Increasing Operating Profit

Utility costs can be one of the highest expenditures of business operation for the hospitality industry. Typically, the HVAC system represents the biggest portion of total energy consumption. HVAC operation in unoccupied areas consumes energy that may not be needed. With the S200 system controlling HVAC operation, the system can reduce energy expenditure, thus increasing operating profit.

Save Guestroom HVAC Energy Consumption Up To 45%

Rented rooms are empty an average of 65% of the time, as guests are normally out sightseeing, shopping, in meetings or other activities. Savings can be realized by using the S200 system to shut off or limit HVAC operation in unoccupied rooms. By automatically setting back the control temperature to a more energy-conserving level while a room is empty, the use of the S200 system can reduce HVAC energy consumption by 30-45%. Significant energy saving assure rapid payback of investment.

No Sacrifice Of Guest Comfort

Occupancy system operation will not interfere with guest comfort because it only functions while rooms are empty. The occupant still has total control of the HVAC system while in the room. Intelligent energy management assures guest comfort.

LOOKING FOR OCCUPANCY DETECTION TO COMPLEMENT YOUR EXISTING SYSTEM?
Standalone Sensor Kits Can Be Used With Any New or Existing Thermostat System

SK200-001 STANDALONE MOTION SENSOR KIT
HVAC Smart Energy Management System Kit for all thermostats includes:

  • SD200-001 Motion Master Sensor
  • SE200-001 Door Switch
  • SF200-001 Power Pack

The SK200-001 system kit uses a door open signal (SE200-001) to initiate occupancy status detection. If the SD200-001 room sensor determines that a room is occupied it will allow normal HVAC control. It waits for another door open signal before determining occupancy again. When the system is set to unoccupied, the SD200-001 sensor continually monitors the room. Any occupancy detection will set the operation to occupied. Programmable high-low setback limits can be set to assure suitable HVAC recovery.

SK200-002 STANDALONE TIME-BASED SENSOR KIT
HVAC Smart Energy Management System Kit for all thermostats includes:

  • SD200-002 Time-Based Master Sensor
  • SF200-001 Power Pack

The SK200-002 system kit uses the SD200-002 sensor to determine occupancy. An OFF delay is started with each occupancy detection. This delay can be set for up to 30 minutes. This system provides basic room setback and ideal HVAC control in commercial spaces. Programmable high-low setback limits can be set to assure suitable HVAC recovery.
